Study in Hamburg

The exchange is presently limited to students registered for undergraduate studies with the Physics Department at the University of Toronto. Students should be Physics majors or should be registered on a related degree programme. If you are not sure whether you are eligible to apply please contact Anja Beidorn.

Students can apply for the following options:

Full year exchange (option 1)
Students will spend the 3rd or 4th year of their BSc abroad in Hamburg. They will combine course work at the University of Hamburg with an intensive research project which is anchored in the research group of Prof. Dwayne Miller. At the University of Toronto students will register for the relevant full-year course for the research project and will undertake the project under the supervision of Prof. Miller in Hamburg. In addition they will register for an appropriate amount of course work at the University of Hamburg to meet their UoT degree requirements. Students will be registered at UHH as exchange students and will receive an official transcript of records at the end of their stay for the purpose of accreditation at UoT.

Semester exchange (option 2)
Students registered for a full-year research project have the opportunity to spend the second half of their project (i.e. the second term) abroad in Hamburg where they will continue their research under the supervision of Prof. Miller. In addition, students will register for an appropriate amount of courses with the University of Hamburg during the local summer semester (April – July). Students will be registered at the University of Hamburg as exchange students and will receive an official transcript of records at the end of their stay for the purpose of accreditation at UoT.
